OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)

The OCT is an instrument very similar to an MRI scan but for the eyes. It produces 3D images, allowing the Optometrist to detect problems that could not easily be seen previously. The OCT provides an incredibly detailed examination of the eyes; this detects eye conditions such as Glaucoma and Age Related Macula Degeneration at a much earlier stage.

Ocular Photography

We can now use two different cameras to photograph both the front and the back of the eye. This allows us to monitor the Lids, Lashes, Cornea and Crystalline Lens for any defects. A photograph of the Retina allows us to look for retinal changes to ensure that there are no general health issues present.

Visucam (Mpod)

We now have the facility to measure patient’s macula pigment density using both our Mpod and Visucam (a high magnification camera that photographs the retina). The latest research indicates that patients with low macula pigment density are at a greater risk of developing Macula Degeneration. By detecting this and prescribing the appropriate nutritional supplements we can help reduce the risk.

Visionix VX 120

We now use the Visionix VX120 to examine the shape and uniformity of the cornea and anterior structures of the eye. This allows us to detect corneal disease and to determine whether a patient is at risk of developing Acute Glaucoma due to the physiological, anatomical structure of the eye. It also enables us to assess the presence of Cataracts in more detail.

Corneal Topography

By mapping in detail the contours of the Cornea we can detect corneal diseases, such as Keratoconus, at an earlier stage. In addition, we can accurately monitor post laser treatment and prescribe individually designed contact lenses.

Visual Fields

With the Humphries Visual Field analyser we now have the capability of recording threshold visual fields. This is a very accurate measure of the extent of your peripheral vision. It is highly important in patients with a family history of Glaucoma or where there is a risk of Glaucoma developing.
