Domiciliary Visits

Domiciliary Visits (Home Eye Examinations)

AT G.T. Harvey, we aim to provide the best in health care for all our patients. We understand that a large proportion of our patients are elderly and have problems with visiting the practice. Due to this, we offer home eye examinations for those patients who are housebound and unable to leave home to attend the practice unaccompanied. Home visits take place once or twice a month and involve either owner of G.T. Harvey, optometrist Stuart Henderson, or optometrist Naomi Darling bringing testing equipment out to test patients’ vision in the privacy of their own homes.

We can visit private addresses, residential homes, hospitals, day centres, or anywhere most convenient for the patient: we are able to work in most environments and can adapt the testing in each situation. We strive to provide a full eye examination by bringing most of our testing equipment with us. However, patients must understand there are some larger instruments that we are unable to bring and consequently a Domiciliary Examination cannot be as extensive as an examination at the practice.  Therefore we can meet patients at the Taxi Drop Off area at the end of Saville Row with a wheelchair to aid access to the Practice.

Any patient who is entitled to have an NHS eye examination and is unable to leave the house unaccompanied, can have an NHS domiciliary test under the NHS for free. Private patients can also be tested – there is a supplementary fee of £45 in addition to the usual eye examination fee. If you require a home visit, or would like further information about the service, please contact the practice.
